A New Concept In Spirit Boards
Tabula Mortem
The Tabula Mortem was carefully designed to be a powerful magical tool to help those who wish to consult the spirit world, ghost hunters and spiritualists. Thanks to a set of ancient symbols the spirit board can now speak with the depth of the Tarot.
Ancient Symbolic Cave Hieroglyphics
What sets the Tabula Mortem apart from most other spirit boards is that it was designed to reflect the spirit world. In order to achieve this, various changes had to be made to the traditional spirit board design. The first thing you will want to pay attention to is the fact that the letters on the board are written in reverse of what you would expect. They run in a counter clockwise fashion as does the numbers. Most people who project their consciousness outside of their body are shocked to see that much of the world they know seems to be in reverse, like a mirror image. This is because our world is a reverse of the truth, we are seeing it from the inside out and thus it appears backwards. The letters on the board run this way to make it easier for spiritual entities to use.
The next major change and in fact a defining feature of the board is the Veve of Papa Legba in the center. Some people have been concerned that this Veve is there to call up Papa Legba. I assure you this is not the case, more than just a Veve is needed to call a Lwa, it would require a ritual, unless Legba wanted to make contact with you already and if that were the case, nothing would stop him. So, you may ask why is the Veve there? We have found when we owned a magic store that some people buy a spirit board and try to make contact with a spirit only to offend them. Then when they get in trouble and can’t stop what they started they blame the board. The Veve of Legba is there because he is the gatekeeper to the others side. Legba can see into people’s hearts, and he will know if their reasons for contacting the other side is pure or not and will make sure that people who are just playing don’t get in trouble. That is his job after all.
Another point of interest is the fact that the letters have been arranged in a circle. There are many spirit boards that do this today and most of the reason is because of an old legend that says arranging the letters in a circle keeps spirits from getting out. Another reason is that a circle is a symbol of magic as it has no beginning or end and thus is the perfect shape to represent the other side.
By far the most inventive addition to the Tabula Mortem is the planchette that can also be used as a pendulum. Whether you use it as a planchette, or a pendulum is a matter of personal preference. This was designed to make the Tabula easier to use as some people feel more comfortable with a pendulum.
Finally, there is the one thing we felt sets the Tabula apart and that is the fact that it comes with a guidebook. This is actually how it all started as people coming into our store looking to buy a spirit board would always ask if it came with a guidebook and none did. Tarot decks, magic mirrors and Rune sets all seem to come with instructions, yet spirit boards did not. We felt that the one thing the board had to have was a guidebook. How were people expected to use it if they didn’t know where to start? We have written a 82 page book that covers what we feel a beginner would need to know about the board before using it.
And by adding the Cave hieroglyphics and our interpretation of the hieroglyphic we resurrected something sacred and profound that has been lost to mankind’s history for over 30,000 years.
We hope that you will enjoy the changes we felt needed to be made to rectify the spirit board and dispel the confusion that has sprung up around this powerful tool. May the Tabula help you find your spiritual truths and may Legba watch over you.
